Gunpowder, Treason and Plot: Bonfire Night What does it all mean? with Bible scholar Matt Davies

A @Christadelphians Video: **Provable Bible Truth** Why watch it? Why should we, as Bible students, care about a 400-year-old political plot and the history of the English Bible? What question does this video answer? It answers the crucial question: How does the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and the Protestant Reformation connect to biblical prophecy, specifically the "man of sin" and the preservation of God's Word? This presentation takes us on a fascinating journey through history, revealing the providential hand of God in the translation of the Bible and the defeat of a plot that threatened to extinguish the Protestant faith in England. It answers the question of how the "man of sin," identified as the papal system of the Roman Catholic Church, has opposed the truth throughout history and how God has preserved His Word despite intense persecution. We demonstrate from the Scriptures that the falling away spoken of by the Apostle Paul was already at work in the first century, and that the papacy fits the description of the "little horn" that would rise from the Roman Empire. The foiling of the Gunpowder Plot, a Jesuit-led conspiracy to blow up King James and Parliament, was a pivotal moment that allowed for the production of the King James Bible—a translation that would spread the gospel to the English-speaking world and pave the way for the restoration of Israel. We see God's orchestration of history: the invention of the printing press, the work of Wycliffe and Tyndale, and the translation of Scripture into the common tongue, all to ensure that the truth could be revived and that we might be called out of the darkness of delusion into the glorious light of the gospel.
