[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=""]Description: Nehemiah chapter 3 reveals a surprising amount of insight into the relationship between the repair work on the walls and gates of Jerusalem and the entire gospel of Jesus Christ. As we journey from the sheep gate in the north down the western broad wall we reach the gate of the fountain and the pool of Siloam where Jesus healed a blind man. Thereafter we ascend to the water gate next to the Gihon spring and the house of the High Priest. Finally we reach the East Gate facing the Mount of Olives and the Miphkad Gate of Judgement. This chapter provides a blueprint for the work of the Great Builder, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Talk 1: Nehemiah: A Blueprint for the Great BuilderThe Book of Nehemiah presents a powerful Old Testament picture of the redemptive mission of Christ. Sent as “the consolation of Yahweh” to rebuild the physical ruins of Jerusalem and initiate the 490-year countdown to Messiah, Nehemiah mirrors Jesus, who came to seek and save the spiritually desolate. Both men wept and prayed over the city, inspected its brokenness by night along the Kidron, faced the same trio of mocking and murderous enemies, refused to “come down” from their great work, and completed a protective wall—Nehemiah’s in fifty-two days, Christ’s at the cross. As cupbearer, Nehemiah foreshadows the One who drank the cup of the new covenant; the finished wall of salvation points to “It is finished,” Pentecost, the renewal of the covenant written on hearts, and the second advent when the true High Priest will purge the temple and restore all things.
Talk 2: The Walls of Nehemiah: A Blueprint for Discipleship (Part 1)Nehemiah’s rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls with stone and timber closes the Old Testament and opens the New with Jesus, the son of a stonemason, who came to quarry living stones from the ruins of humanity. Chapter 3 shows a diverse, multicultural workforce of forty-two groups—commoners, rejected strangers, Gentiles, perfumers, rulers, and zealots—labouring hand by hand with trowel and sword, united by one mind and the trumpet call, exactly as the body of Christ edifies and defends itself today. The high priest Eliashib begins at the Sheep Gate, sanctifying the unbolted door beside the towers of mercy and the hundred, pointing to Christ the Lamb and Good Shepherd who calls the lost sheep; the Fish Gate follows at once, for those saved must become fishers of men. Thus, the walls, named Salvation, become an allegory of the disciple’s walk, built not with untempered mortar but with the joy set before the Chief Cornerstone.
Talk 3: The Walls of Nehemiah: A Blueprint for Discipleship (Part 2)The ten gates of Nehemiah chapter 3 map the complete spiritual pilgrimage of every believer and the prophetic history of the ecclesia itself. Beginning at the Sheep Gate with Christ’s first advent as the sacrificial Lamb, the path moves through the Fish Gate of apostolic mission, the Old Gate of ancient doctrine, the Broad Wall of gospel liberty, the Valley and Dung Gates of testing and sanctification, the Fountain and Water Gates of living water and the washing power of the Word, the Horse Gate of spiritual warfare, and the East Gate of watching for the Sun of Righteousness. It culminates at the Miphkad (Inspection Gate), the judgment seat where the King-Priest reviews our building. What begins with grace and building ends with strengthening the things that remain, closing the loop at the chief cornerstone and the upper room of the slain Lamb—grace to glory, Alpha to Omega.
