Jesus is not God (John 8:58)

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css="" css_animation="none"] A @Christadelphians Video: Jesus is not God. In spite of this many Trinitarians quote John 8:58 to support their idea that Jesus is God, claiming that the words "I am" in this passage are the name of God. The reality is different. The Greek words "I am" in John 8:58 are not the same as the words used in Exodus 3:14 for the name of God in the Greek Old Testament that was in use at the time of Jesus. People other than Jesus use this phrase to describe themselves (See John 9:9). The idea that this verse refers to Jesus as God comes from poor understanding of the Greek of this text. Jesus is explaining that he is more important than Abraham, and that when Abraham is raised, Jesus will already be there. Earlier on in the passage, Jesus tells us who he really is: "but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did." Jesus clearly describes himself as someone other than God. In John 10:18 Jesus tells us that he can die (while God is immortal) and that he receives commandments from God his father. The presenter argues that this verse does not mean that Jesus is God, but rather that Jesus is the Son of God, sent by God, and distinct from God. ### Highlights 🔍 The presenter explains that the phrase "I am" in John 8:58 is not the same as the Hebrew expression for the name of God, and that this phrase is used in other contexts in the Bible without being interpreted as a reference to God. 🔍 The presenter cites other verses in the Gospel of John where Jesus clarifies that he is not equal to God, but rather subordinate to God and speaking the words of God who sent him. 🔍 The presenter also addresses the idea that Jesus was seen as either just a man or as God, and shows how Jesus responded to these misconceptions by affirming that he is the Son of God, sent by God, and distinct from God. # Keywords - Christology - Biblical Interpretation - Trinitarian Theology [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcwkk65wz30[/embedyt] This video was produced by the ChristadelphianVideo.org project, arranged and supported by Christadelphians worldwide.
