Through both Old and New Testaments of the Bible we find a thread that provides a consistently clear answer to this question. The scriptures speak of death in terms of those that perish for ever and those that sleep awaiting resurrection, resurrection being the only way to everlasting life - the long term outcome following death that is available to all.
